Remote Simplicity: Using a Zune Remote in Media Center

Some times you just want to keep things simple or gasp keep it “Apple” like. That is the case with this nice little gem of a find. A user over at Life Hacker found out that with a simple registry edit you can use alternative IR remote controls within Media Center and even Windows Media Player.
A while back I documented on how you can have two media center PC’s in the same room by editing the IR registry settings on one of the Media Center PC’s so that you could …

Microsoft live streaming their CES keynote

Just like last year, Microsoft will be live streaming their CES keynote.  No one is quite sure what MS will be showing but there have been rumblings…
The company has worked a lot in the last year to bring Zune and Xbox Live content together and we have to assume they’ll continue to move in this direction.  As well, there have been recent rumors of Xbox Live content coming to Windows Mobile devices.  Of course, being a Media Center user, it’ll be interesting to see if us HTPC users …

Review: Casa Tunes Multi-Zone Audio with Media Center

For years I have been slowly building up a multi-zone audio system in my home. The first system I had was based off of my Yamaha AV receiver that had a second zone output, to which I used to feed speakers in my garage. Later on I expanded that to also feed audio into my kitchen/living room area, but was still only based off of two audio sources so the garage and living room still only played the same audio. In those early days I really only had three audio …

Zune80 $149.99 With A/V Dock at Woot.com

If you just can’t wait for the ZuneHD and want to get your hands on portable media player now, you won’t see this price again until sometime after the HD’s launch.
Woot has the Zune 80GB (normally $250) with the home A/V dock (normally somewhere north of $50 online) for $149.99 today.  That’s a great deal on a great PMP.  I have yet to have an issue with my Zune80.
As well, if you head to Sellout.woot, you can pick up the car charger with FM transmitter for $9.99 today.  I …

Does Microsoft Allow Employees to Talk to Each Other?

Many people would call Michael Jackson dying a tragedy while others couldn’t care less.  But I’m not writing this to talk about Michael Jackson.  Well, sort of.  What I want to talk about is the fact that his funeral was netcast in HD via inMusic in Canada.  The cast wasn’t country specific so I was able to tune in and check out part of it.
The streaming was done using 720p Smooth Streaming with Silverlight, Microsoft’s answer to Adobe’s Flash technology.  All I can say is that I was amazed …

Zune HD Rumors and Power Consumption

Zune Thoughts published two interesting articles yesterday regarding the upcoming ZuneHD.  The first is one that a lot of people have been wondering about, and while it’s still a rumor, it’s worth mentioning.  It’s starting to look more and more like the ZuneHD will be using the Nvidia Tegra processor to run the show.  Again, it’s still a rumor as it comes by way of some info gleaned from a conversation at Computex back in June.  IF this proves true however, it’s great news.  The Tegra chip uses very …

We all know the ZuneHD is on the way.  But, if you don’t want to wait until it releases, you have a chance to pick up a 4GB Zune and a Car Pack for less than $100 from Buy.com.
I can tell you from experience that the car pack alone normally runs right around $70 so really, you’re getting it for free here.

Gizmodo Grabs Video of the ZuneHD

We’re finally getting some first looks of the ZuneHD via Gizmodo.  The tech site got a few minutes to play with the new device and was able to get some pictures and video.
To me, it looks a little small.  That would probably confirm that at least the first generation of the new Zune will be SSD only, which doesn’t bode well for storage junkies like myself.
Hopefully we’ll get some more info soon on some of the specs that we haven’t had a chance to hear about yet!
Head over to …
