Just a quick note. Jere and I got a great email about our last show covering Windows Home Server and HTPCs. We just couldn’t bare to wait until August to talk about it. I’ll let you listen for all of the details but suffice to say, there seems to be enough interest that we’re going to have to do another WHS show soon. Hope you enjoy!

Want to back up the PCs in your home without thinking about it? Need something to server media to several HTPCs spread through your house? Windows Home Server may be just what you’re looking for.
This month, Jere and I speak with Vince Anido and Alton Marschall, both Windows Home Server users. Vince is a SageTV user who runs his WHS as a way to maintain backups. Alton is a Media Center user who recently shut down his WHS and he goes into the reasons why during the show. Both guys …

It’s Christmas Eve and all through the house, not a creature was stirring. Except for Josh, Adam and special guest for Episode 57 Dave McCabe.
Fresh off of our cable company round table, we’re sending out a great Christmas gift for our listeners this week. Dave McCabe of The Home Server Show joins us to discuss his Media Center experiences and how Windows Home Server can be used to help add some functionality to MCE.
Again, not much in the way of show notes but be sure and come …

For years I have been slowly building up a multi-zone audio system in my home. The first system I had was based off of my Yamaha AV receiver that had a second zone output, to which I used to feed speakers in my garage. Later on I expanded that to also feed audio into my kitchen/living room area, but was still only based off of two audio sources so the garage and living room still only played the same audio. In those early days I really only had three audio …

I recently had a storage issue on my Windows Home Server. I run a WHS with only one 250GB drive in it as I haven’t had a chance to build a proper server yet. As well, I’m waiting to see what will happen with codename: Vail before I invest in the hardware. Anyway, the storage issue forced me to remove two of my PCs from the WHS.
Of course, once I had the issue resolved I wanted my PCs getting backed up so I needed to reinstall the Connector software …

Windows Home Server is a fantastic product! It’s one of the best products to come out of Microsoft in the past few years. If you’re a Windows Media Center user, like me, then it makes all the sense in the world to also be running a WHS. Recently Microsoft released a beta of Power Pack 3 for WHS which added even more great integration with Media Center. For more details on it you can read our review here.
So the question you’re probably asking yourself right now is: “if he likes …

I’m enjoying having a home server. Mine has been running for about a month now and overall the experience has been great. When I heard that Power Pack 3 was going to up the ante when it came to Media Center integration I knew I had to try it. And try it I have. While I’m happy to have the new integration, Power Pack 3 does have a few glaring shortcomings.
First, if you’re wondering what all Power Pack 3 can do, take a look at the screencast I posted …

As promised! Have a look below at a quick look at the new Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 beta and the new functionality added to Media Center. I’ve enjoyed toying with the new addins so far and though I did have one hang up, it was an easy fix. Everything is running pretty smoothly now.
Hopefully we’ll continue to see further WHS/MCE integration. The two offerings from MS would work well together on so many levels. With WHS being as young as it is, hopefully it’ll just be a …

It looks as though maybe, just maybe, Microsoft gets it. Or is at least starting to understand that people want to bring the different technologies MS produces together.
Power Pack 3 for Windows Home Server went beta today. I’ve had a chance to install it but not much time to play so you can expect more info and a screencast early next week. The best info so far has been provided by the Windows Home Server Team Blog.
Most of the new features are specific to Windows 7 and Media Center. For …
