Entertainment 2.0-Episode 67: The Plugin Show

Back for the first week of March and while news is slow, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the great plugins that are available both within the 10 foot interface, and that simply compliment Media Center.  Whether we’re talking about metadata retrieval, content management or adding new functions, the apps we cover during this show are just a sample of what’s out there.  You’ll find links to all the applications we discuss right below.
We didn’t have a whole lot of email this week and we’re hoping …

Entertainment 2.0-Episode 65: The Hockey Minute

Once again we return as ready as ever to answer your questions and mull the intricacies of Media Center.  We had a lot of fun on this week’s show and got some good information out to you, our listeners.
First up this week is Boxee and Windows Media Center Integration 1.0.  A new tool, this app will place a tile in Media Center linked to Boxee and through magic in the background will close Media Center and open Boxee when selected.  It does the process in reverse once you’re ready …

How To: Keep a Close Eye on Your Media Center

It’s no surprise to any of our regular readers how much I love Window 7 Media Center. That passion has probably crossed the line into obsession now though. If you’re like me, and for the sake of humanity, let’s hope not, you want to constantly know what your Media Center is doing. That’s where Ian Dixon’s (a fellow Media Center MVP) wonderful Media Center Health Monitor comes in.
Simply register for an account over at http://health.thedigitallifestyle.com, download the software, and you’ll be tracking the status of your Media Center to your …

Remote Potato Brings Remote Scheduling to Windows 7 Media Center

The ability to remotely schedule recordings on your Windows 7 Media Center seems a like a feature that should have been included from the very launch of the operating system. After all,  Microsoft did hire the developer of Web Guide, the program that allowed this feature, along with streaming of your content, that was available for Media Center in Windows Vista. Fortunately the developers over at Fat Attitude have come to the rescue! They have developed a new program called Remote Potato.
Remote Potato is actually very similar to Web Guide. It …

DVBLink Turns Your Tuners into Networked Tuners

We all love watching television on our Media Center computers, but what if you have more than one computer around your house? The only solutions up to this point have been to install tv tuner cards into every machine or to use a networked tuner like the HD Homerun. DVBLink is changing all of that though. Today they released a beta of their Server Network Pack and Network Client software.
With DVBLinks new software you simply install the server software on the machine that has the tuner cards in it, and …

Poll: HTPC vs. Extender

Yesterday Ben Drawbaugh and I got into it a little back and forth on Twitter about the HTPC and using it as a HTPC directly connected to your display. Whether that is your tv, your projector or some other display medium or in the case of Ben using your HTPC more as a server in a closet up and out of the way basically running as a headless unit serving up extenders.
Back in July Ben and myself joined Josh (the other Josh) and Adam on Entertainment 2.0 Episode 37 part …

Entertainment 2.0-Episode 55: Listener Q&A

This week we take time to catch up on the voicemail, email and comments you all have sent us.  Thanks for the feedback and questions!  We appreciate the time our listeners take to contribute to the show and we’ll continue to answer any questions you send us as quickly as possible.
There hasn’t been a whole lot of news hitting in the last few weeks.  Between holidays here in the US and (I believe) companies holding back information for CES in January, things are slow in December.  We’re putting together …

Enabling Concurrent RDP sessions in Windows 7

Having recently started using my HTPC directly on the main television in our home has been a good experience.  It’s given me access to more content than is available on extender and overall a lot more control of my experience in my main viewing area.
One of the issues you come across with this method however is access to non-Media Center functions.  We all know that you can use RDP or Microsoft Live Mesh to remote into your HTPC to perform these tasks but the problem we run into is …
