HD Sportsman – Feb. 1-7 Super Bowl Week

It’s Super Bowl week. If you’re not a football fan, too bad, because you won’t be able to get away from it. There are still other things going on. The PGA Tour is back on NBC Saturday and Sunday, there’s plenty of quality college hoops all week, and two of the NHL’s best square off on NBC Sunday at 12 noon with Washington and Pittsburgh.
SPOTLIGHT
New Orleans and Indianapolis square off in Super Bowl XLIV Sunday at 6:25 p.m. on CBS (1080i). Coverage starts at 12 noon and runs the rest …

HD Sportsman Jan. 18-24

Things get real in the NFL this week, with the AFC and NFC Championships and a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Elsewhere, an Olympic bid is still up for grabs as the U.S. Figure Skating Championships continue all weekend on NBC. The Australian Open is in the spotlight as well, with ESPN2 devoting massive hours of coverage all week long. Of note: We’re less than a month from the 2010 Winter Olympics.

HD Sportsman – Jan. 11-17

Our first week with no bowl games in a while, but we do get NFL playoffs to keep us warm on Saturday and Sunday (FOX, CBS various times). NBC kicks off its Sunday NHL coverage with Detroit and Chicago at 12:30 p.m. On the college basketball side, lots of ranked teams in action as conference schedules get underway this week. Side note: I’ll be at Saturday’s Illinois-MSU game, look for a guy in green. Also, the U.S. figure skating championships are on NBC this weekend, helping determine our Olympic team. …

HD Sportsman – Jan. 4-10

Happy New Year. A great week of football greets us for the first HD Sportsman of 2010. The BCS National Championship, a pair of unbeatens in the Fiesta Bowl and Wild-card weekend in the NFL.
SPOTLIGHT
Hard to argue with Thursday’s BCS National Championship (8 p.m. ABC 720p). Alabama and Texas will square off for the right to be called the best college team in the country, or at least for the right to be part of the TCU/Boise State should have been in that game argument.
Here’s the rest of the week, …

HD Sportsman – Nov. 30 – Dec. 6

Florida and Alabama met in last year’s SEC Title game with the Gators coming out on top. ‘Bama gets a rematch Saturday.
We’re sticking with the full-week post again this week, and likely for the foreseeable future as College Football winds down. Let us know if you prefer this or the twice-weekly posts. Looking ahead to the first week in December, there’s a lot to like. New England tries to give New Orleans its first loss of the season Monday night (ESPN 8 p.m.). There’s some great college basketball this week …

HD Sportsman – Nov. 23-29 XL Gobble Gobble edition

An extra-large helping of sports for an extra-large week. Happy Thanksgiving, not only can you feast all day Thursday, you can feast on sports all week long. This is by far the busiest week we’ve seen since the NCAA Basketball Tournament’s opening week. College basketball tournaments make up most of the schedule, but the NBA, NHL, NFL and college football make multiple appearances as well.
Since this is a holiday week, I’ve posted the entire schedule for the week instead of the usual weekday and weekend posts. I’ll try to get …

HD Sportsman – Nov. 13-15

It’s football overload this weekend. Sunday’s NASCAR race on ABC at 3 p.m. is the only non-pigskin national sporting event on TV this Saturday and Sunday. The college football regualar season is nearing an end, and conference title races are heating up. In the NFL, one of the great rivalries today is renewed when New England heads to Indianapolis Sunday night on NBC.
SPOTLIGHT

HD Sportsman Oct. 30-Nov. 1

The World Series continues this weekend with games three and four in Philadelphia. Saturday night’s college football games on ABC and ESPN2 each feature matchups of top 25 teams, and for the Irish fans out there, Notre Dame plays in primetime this week when they host Washington State at 7:30 on NBC. It’s a good thing the primetime games are good, because it’s a bit of a snooze-fest in the afternoon on Saturday.
SPOTLIGHT
USC at Oregon, Saturday at 8 p.m. (ESPN2 or ABC). Both teams are 6-1. Oregon is 4-0 in …

HD Sportsman Oct 23-25

The Yankees and Angels will decide the other half of the World Series this weekend. One of the two teams will join the Phillies either Saturday or Sunday (FOX). An odd week in college football where no top 25 teams face each other on national TV. Minnesota travels to Pittsburgh in what’s likely the highlight NFL game (FOX 1 p.m.), although New England and Tampa Bay are playing in London at the new Wembley Stadium (pictured) on CBS at 1 p.m. NBC has gymnastics and ice skating for those into …
