For years I have been slowly building up a multi-zone audio system in my home. The first system I had was based off of my Yamaha AV receiver that had a second zone output, to which I used to feed speakers in my garage. Later on I expanded that to also feed audio into my kitchen/living room area, but was still only based off of two audio sources so the garage and living room still only played the same audio. In those early days I really only had three audio …

The battle of one-ups-manship is in full swing between Apple and Palm in regards to iTunes syncing. As reported last week, the latest iTunes update (8.2.1) killed your hopes of syncing your media collection with the Palm Pre using the popular software. Well, it seems that Palm has been busy in the last week. With the 1.1 update to WebOS, iTunes syncing has been restored.
Though there are 3rd party apps that’ll do the sync for you, a ton of people enjoy using iTunes and it looks as though …

You had to know this was coming. Apple has released an update for iTunes which effectively shuts down Palm Pre syncing. The new iTunes (8.2.1) fixes the loophole Palm was using to allow the Pre to use the popular music cataloging software. CNet has confirmed this by installing the software and watching their Pre NOT sync up.
Luckily there are options whether or not your want to continue to use iTunes. 1: Don’t update. It’s not required and version 8.2 will continue to work just fine. 2: Use a different …

It seems that you can now buy your music just like your dad did back in the 70s. Kinda.
iTunes is now offering you the chance to pick up what they’re calling D45’s. Sold just like the 45 RPM records of old, you get two tracks. A single and then some type of B-side track from the artist. Taking a quick look, there are packs from Prince, Van Halen, Rod Stewart, The Doors, and a slew of others. All mainly older groups that you young Whipper-Snappers probably never heard of.
The …

Not too long ago, one of the bigger stories in portable media was that the Palm Pre would be able to sync with iTunes when it was released. By using some programming magic, Palm did its best to make sure that people could use the most popular media syncing software with their phone. Other PMPs have been able to do this in the past but with the Pre being highly anticipated, it was kind of a big deal.
CNet is reporting this week that Apple has now updated their support …

If you’re launching a new smartphone and you want to compete with one of the big dogs, what’s the best way to do it? Well, make sure your phone syncs with said big dog’s software when it comes to content of course!
And that’s exactly what the Palm Pre will do when it goes on sale next month. The only hold up at this time is that DRM songs won’t be recognized. Even so, if you pay the “apple tax” and get your DRM removed, or if you just manage …

Canadian iTunes users up until today had little options when it came to getting HD or US content onto their iPhones or iPods. That all changed today when Apple brought some more content to The Great White North.
iLounge is reporting that content from ABC, NBC, Fox and Warner Bros. is now available in both SD and HD resolutions. Not everything is there yet but hopefully they’ll keep adding the content for our neighbors to the north.
Canadian iTunes content runs $2.49CAD for SD and $3.49 for HD content.
Enjoy!

The iPod doesn’t like certain file types. The same goes for most other portable media players. Companies only add support for so many codecs and containers and unlike a PC, it’s not possible to add your own decoders so all of your files will work.
doubleTwist aims to make content playback on PMPs as easy as drag and drop. Co-founded by Jon Lech Johansen (the guy known as DVD Jon for cracking DVD DRM back in 2002), doubleTwist is currently in public beta. It basically takes the worry out of …

That’s what MS wants you to believe and while technically it is true I suppose, I don’t think anyone in their right mind would pay out $30k to fill an iPod.
I am an MS fan though so I must say that it is nice to see them hitting back at Apple where they can: Price. I’ve complained here before about the iTunes software and given that you have to pay at least 99 cents a track never attracted me either.
Apparently MS has decided to go with the strengths …

I still can’t figure out why so many people use iTunes to get their music fix. After installing it to manage the Entertainment 2.0 I found the interface clunky, slow, and just a pain to navigate. Add to this the fact that Apple charges a premium for DRM free content and I’ll never understand. I personally love using my Zune software and my subscription. Unlimited access to the catalog plus 10 tracks to keep, DRM free, each month.
Ed Bott has decided it’s time to compare some of the …
