Boxee to enter Beta next month

Boxee, the open source media application that will let you bring internet and streaming content to your TV through the use of a PC, is ready to leave alpha and enter the beta stage next month.  I’ve been using the application for a bit now in Windows and I can say I’m relatively happy, even with the occasional crash.  I’m hoping these issues are fixed in the beta, but again, being alpha software, you can’t really complain too much.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet Review

I’ve been checking Archos’ website frequently.  The company has been producing interesting portable media players (PMPs) for awhile now and until recently I’ve never had the opportunity to try one.  Recently the company announced that they would be releasing a series of devices aimed and bridging the gap between PMP and UMPC.  The first to do this is the Archos 5 Internet Tablet.  Archos was able to achieve this combination device by utilizing the Android OS.

Windows 7: Stream Recorded TV Remotely

Today I saw this blog post about streaming recorded tv remotely over the internet from one pc to a netbook. Basically in the latest builds of Windows 7 (I have confirmed this to work on builds 7077 and 7100) you can setup windows media player, when linked to a live ID, to stream any of your media content, whether it be music, photos, and even recorded tv. The TV Evolution Has Begun, And People Want It

Thanks to @tvonyourpc for pointing me to this article.  While I know that in our home and internet connected TV has been reality for a long time simply because we use Windows Media Center.  That’s not the case for everyone but it seems that it’s something people want.
From cNet News comes the story of the Consumer Electronics Association and a study they recently published which shows that 48% of respondents would use internet connected TVs to access more information on the show they’re watching.

Microsoft shows off Smooth Streaming

With internet content taking off Microsoft is making sure they won’t be left out of the game.  They recently showed off a new Internet Information Services extension which allows adaptive streaming to Silverlight clients over HTTP.  This will allow true HD (720p+) streaming on content distribution networks.
