The Movie Podcast: Aug. 30th 2010

Back for the last show of August and things are starting to pick up a bit.  While we did have to watch Marmaduke this week, we also get into Tyler Perry and a cult classic that every horror fan should see at least once.  Take a listen for all the details.
Hopefully, with September starting this week, the big summer blockbusters are just around the corner.  Stay tuned to The Movie Podcast for all the latest releases!
Don’t forget, you have one more week to get your submissions in to win a …

The Movie Podcast: Aug. 23rd 2010

It seems that we have another week of mediocrity on our hands.  None of the movies we review this week are bad, but none are one of the better films in their respective genres either.  The good part is that if you’re an action nut, you’re kinda covered.  If you have date night coming up?  You’ll get by with new material.  Just know that James and I are LONGING for the summer blockbusters to start showing up on disk.
Don’t forget, we’ve got our contest going!  Just send in your pick …

The Movie Podcast: Aug. 16th 2010

This has to be one of the worst weeks ever.  We’ve reviewed some bad movies here at TMP over the last few months.  It is summer after all.  But nothing, and I mean nothing tops this week’s travesty.  Suffice to say that when it comes to movies, save your money because better titles are coming soon.
TV is a different story.  With Dexter:  Season Four coming out this week in preparation for season five at the end of September, you definitely have some quality content to check out.  And just in …

The Movie Podcast: August 9th, 2010

August is in full swing and with most of the major theatrical releases out of the way, you would hope it’s time to start kicking out some great disk releases.  Nope, not yet.  This is going to be a thin month folks, but James and I are here to get you through.  We’ll let you know what to stay away from.  It’s just what we do.
This week’s fare isn’t all that bad.  It’s a comedy week so if you’re looking to laugh, you should be able to find something that …

The Movie Podcast: August 2nd, 2010

Summer continues to drag on in the world of new releases though I must say, I wasn’t totally disappointed by this week’s fare.  With something for the family as well as a film that’s definitely not family friendly, you should be able to find something to please almost anyone in your home.
This week we feature our first guest reviewer and it’s probably someone you’ll be hearing from every once in awhile on the show.  That’s the great part of being one of the hosts, you can invite who you want …

The Movie Podcast: July 26th, 2010

Another summer week and while it’s been better than most, I really can’t wait for fall.  This is another one of those weeks when I really wish that the releases for the week were better than they were.  Unfortunately, hopes don’t always hold out.
You’ll notice a bit of audio difference this week.  When one of your co-hosts is in Romania, it tends to affect things like that.  James will be back stateside next week though and you can expect us to be back to our usual selves.  (I think there …

Does the DMCA Really Prevent You From Backing-Up Your DVDs/Blu-rays?

It seems that this slipped right under the radar.  More than likely it’s due to the fact that it’s a non-digital media related story, but the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals handed down a ruling in the case of MGE UPS Systems Inc. vs. GE/PMC Inc. which, while related more to hardware, calls out the DMCA and it’s intention in regards to copyright law.
You can argue that backing up a DVD or Blu-ray movie does or does not fall under fair use however most of us who follow this debate …

The Movie Podcast: July 19th, 2010

It’s the week of mediocrity here on The Movie Podcast.  James and I take a look at three films and while none of them were awful, either bad acting or bad writing held them back from being great.  I really wanted to enjoy this week’s selection but it was more meh than anything else.  It’s unfortunate too because any one of these films could have been great very easily.
Stick with us through the week folks.  As summer moves on the selection will get better and as those summer theater releases …

The Movie Podcast: July 5th, 2010

Slow again folks.  I really can’t wait until I can stop typing that at the beginning of these posts but it’s true.  Once again though, there are gems to see and something to keep you busy on those rainy days during the summer.
My pick of the week has to be Brooklyn’s Finest.  A cop drama that brings together some heavy hitters, the movie takes a bit to get started but tells a great story in the end.  If you’re into foreign films, James highly recommends The Girl With The Dragon …

The Movie Podcast: June 28th, 2010

It’s getting to be like a broken record but there is simply no other word to use to describe the summer home release schedule than SLOW!  That said, there are a few gems in this week’s releases.  James and I don’t totally see eye to eye on the three major Blu-ray/DVD releases and it makes for a great show.  No matter what, there is some great content here to watch this week.
We’ll be back next week where it gets even worse.  Stay tuned.  Work with us through this dead summer …
