Entertainment 2.0 #90: Week of a Thousand Tuners

You’re getting the show a bit early this week!  I decided that since August 19th is the two year anniversary of the show, I didn’t want to miss it.  It was this day in 2008 that the audio adventure began.  Thanks for sticking with us all the way through!
This week’s title for the show comes straight from the content.  Between the Tuner Salad release and the fact that CableLabs recently decided to allow tuner sharing, it’s all tuners this week.  Check the links below for all the info!
Our 100th episode …

CableLabs Approves Tuner Sharing and DRM Free Copy Freely Content

One of the features that the Ceton InfiniTV4 was poised to offer was tuner sharing.  This would allow you to have your InfiniTV4 in one HTPC and assign tuners to other HTPCs in your home.  Unfortunately CableLabs put the kibosh on this rather quickly.
Luckily, they’ve seen the light and as of Friday, tuner sharing is now approved in OCUR devices.  That means you can install multiple tuners in a single PC and spread them throughout your home.  While Ceton will obviously be the first to benefit from this new feature …

Entertainment 2.0 #89: Easing your Install

Let’s just face it.  The news this week revolves around one thing and one thing only:  people are finally starting to receive their Ceton InfiniTV4s!  Media Center users throughout the US are going nuts as these cards start to ship from retailers.  It’s taken some time to get them out but between the reported ease of use and the help we provide this week, you should be all set once you unbox that bad boy.
Josh and I are joined by Jeremy Hammer, VP of Systems Integration for Ceton this week.  …

Ceton Has Begun Shipping the InfiniTV 4

Today we received official word from Ceton that they have begun shipping their InfiniTV 4. The first batch of units has already been sent to their retail partners. If you were one of the first to pre-order then you will probably receive your tuner next week. Demand for the card was higher than the rate in which they are able to manufacture them, so not all pre-orders are being sent out this week. Orders are being fulfilled on a first-ordered, first-shipped basis.
To coincide with the release Ceton has also updated their support page to …

Ceton InfiniTV 4 Review

Its not often that a product comes along that really shakes up a niche market like ours. With few exceptions we are accustomed to every product acting like all the others. Price or brand recognition ends up being the determining factor in hardware choices.
What happens however when a product comes along and challenges our notions of the HTPC landscape?
Way back in January of 2009 we learned about an exciting product that really deserves the much-overused title “game changer.” Ceton’s InfiniTV 4, a pci-express card that can record up to four …

Update From Ceton

Ceton has sent out another newsletter to all of those who are trying to patiently wait for the release of their InfiniTV 4 quad-tuner CableCARD tuner. Unfortunately the Kirkland-based company did not provide an updated release date. With regards to releasing the hotly-anticipated tuner they only stated that the card is currently in production, and as soon as the completed units are tested they will begin shipping to customers who pre-ordered. At this point one would have to assume that its only a matter of weeks until customers begin to …

Entertainment 2.0 #80: The Google Takeover

Yes, no matter what you read up above or what you hear during the show, this is a Media Center show and we won’t be changing.  That said, GoogleTV did make the news this past week so we take some time to try and figure out what it’s all about.  Really, it’s more of a speculation/it’s awful/NO IT’S NOT type of deal but we do discuss it.  Hope you enjoy!
There was also a bit of Media Center related news this past week.  Josh and I take time to cover …

Ceton Delays InfiniTV 4 Ship Date

Ceton Delays InfiniTV 4 Ship Date
http://thedigitalmediazone.com/2010/03/12/ceton-delays-quad-cablecard-tuner/
Back in March we brought you the unfortunate news that Ceton was going to miss their Q1 release date for their much anticipated quad CableCARD tuner, the InfiniTV 4. When Ceton announced that delay they gave everyone a new date of May 31. Unfortunately tonight Ceton has announced that they will be unable to meet this date also.
Ceton would not get into specific reasons for the delay other than noting that in the global recession it is extremely difficult to get all of the 1000 …

Entertainment 2.0-Episode 75: The Jerk From Toledo

The end of April is finally here and we’re joined by Jere Jones of Dragon Global this week.  First we get to hear what’s in store for the most popular commercial skipping software available for Windows 7 and we also get to help give away an InfiniTV 4 from Ceton.  Jere was good enough to give it away live during our recording on Wednesday and we appreciate it.
All three of us get to weigh in on what Windows Embedded Standard 7 including Media Center means for the community and …

Ceton Lobbies the FCC to Not Abandon CableCARD

We saw back in December that the FCC had basically called CableCARD a failed attempt to bring openness to the cable industry. They didn’t simply leave it at that though. The FCC then asked for ideas from the industry for ways to be improve the locked-down situation that currently plagues the cable set-top box market. Most figured the FCC would be inundated with requests to completely do away with CableCARD in place of a completely new standard.
Ceton isn’t like most companies in the industry though. On Thursday, April 8th the …
