If you’re building a home theater PC, or other boxes to integrate within your home media environment, you’re going to need software! For a home theater PC we recommend Windows 7 Home Premium. It includes Windows Media Center and it will save you a fair amount of money if you don’t need the extra features of Professional or Ultimate.

    XBMC doesn’t offer a complete HTPC solution because it doesn’t handle live/recorded TV. That is why everyone who writes for the DMZ uses Windows 7 Media Center.
