Josh and Richard tried to keep episode 164, and to get the live show started on time this week. Only one of those goals were accomplished, but that’s okay! As usual, the show was kicked off by some great listener feedback before Josh made a correction on the topic of DVD ripping from the last few weeks. After that Richard filled us in on some very interesting Windows Phone rumors. Then Josh found a way to make Richard really angry, by talking about the latest CableCARD numbers. Now that we’re all a couple of weeks out of the Consumer Electronics Show there haven’t been any new products to talk about, but many of our favorite products have been updated. Some of those updates have been good, while others were changed through external forces, and not for the better. Also this week, Paramount jumped into the UltraViolet game. Richard let’s us know if they’ve managed to fix all of the issues we have with the digital movie delivery service. Josh also fills us in on how he’s using Windows Media Center for his Super Bowl party, and he offers some suggestions for how you could use Media Center at your party. It’s a Windows Media Center plugin that has been getting a lot of attention over the last few months, and deservedly so! Mark’s plugin adds a wealth of new features to the recorded television interface within Media Center, and Mark is constantly releasing new versions which are packed with new features. It’s hard to believe, but the final episode of the Entertainment 2.0 podcast for 2011 is now upon us! This week Josh and Richard are back with former host, Adam Thursby, for the annual Holiday Spectacular! No one could have predicted the year that was 2011, but in late December hindsight truly is 20/20. This week the guys take a look back at all of the good things, and some of the not-so-good things that made this year special. The trio go through their best and worst movies of the year. Is it possible that the same movie could end up in both lists? After that the guys picked the biggest and best HTPC tech product of the year, and what they felt was the worst or most disappointing. After that they looked ahead to 2012, more specifically, CES 2012 to try and guess what might be making the news in the new year. To wrap up the show Richard surprised Josh and Adam with a lightning round of questions. Hopefully you’ll have as much fun listening as the guys did while recording! Entertainment 2.0 #158 : Not-So-Happy Holidays

It’s the time of year when everyone has a little more cheer than usual (probably because CES is only three weeks away!) but unfortunately there wasn’t much positive news out there to be discussed. The FCC has proposed changes to cable tier encryption that could signal the end of ClearQAM, Silverlight 5 is finally available, but doesn’t fix any of our problems, and Richard finally opens his Harmony Link only to discover he’d rather return it than use it! So umm…..happy holidays! Fortunately, next week’s Holiday Spectacular should be a lot of fun, and the previously mentioned CES will bring joy to nerds across the land! Because of the delayed release of the Xbox dashboard last week, Josh and Richard had to hold off on their complete discussion of it until this week. For episode 157 of Entertainment 2.0 they took a deep look at the updated Metro-styled user interface, and all of the great new features. Before that, of course, they started the show with some more excellent feedback from the listeners. It wasn’t all about Xbox though. There was also a suspicious leak of what may be the music player for Windows 8. To close the show Richard was, finally, able to talk about his Google TV, the Logitech Revue, getting updated to Honeycomb. In the closing they discuss their plans for CES. It was a big week for Microsoft as they released their greatly anticipated update to the Xbox dashboard. Josh and Richard discussed all of the big updates to the user interface plus the changes and additional video services that are launching soon. Then Richard updated everyone on the latest releases for UltraViolet from a different studio. Was Sony able to improve the experience? After the news the guys dug into their Holiday Gift Guide for Geeks. Each picked out a few items from each category that they really liked. At the end of the show James Montemagno was able to join the guys to discuss his gift ideas in a way that only he can! Josh and Richard are back, yet again, to discuss the latest news in the Microsoft Entertainment ecosystem. As usual, the show was kicked off with two great emails from the listeners. After that the guys had quick updates on tubeCore and ChevronWP7 before Richard detailed his Aerodrom review. Next Josh quickly touched on Microsoft’s Windows Embedded roadmap before the two discussed the, then rumored, Boxee Box live TV tuner. Richard then shared a great resource for finding more information on how individual cable providers are using copy protection. For Episode 152 of the Entertainment 2.0 Podcast, Josh and Richard are back together to discuss the latest new in the Microsoft Entertainment ecosystem. The show started off with some great questions from a couple of listeners before Richard dove into the story he wrote about UltraViolet’s release. Being that he’s the Apple guy on the show Richard then discussed a new app that promises to bring Airplay functionality to Windows Media Center. After that, Josh dug into some Windows Phone stories. He started with the release of Spotify on Windows Phone. After that he discussed a new, and legitimate, option of bringing homebrew software to Windows Phone. They finished off the mobile phone news with a Windows Phone app that works as Media Center remote control. Richard capped off the show with the ultimate in mobile technology as he talked about the latest software update to the MyFord Touch system. Josh and Richard are back together for a spooky Episode 151 of Entertainment 2.0. As usual, the two kicked off the show with some listener feedback, including a very suspicious voicemail. After that they dove into all the news of the last couple of weeks. They started with a supposed leak of Windows 8 that includes Windows Media Center. After that they discussed a new service from the people who brought us PlayOn. Next they mentioned that the InfiniTV 4 USB is now available and shipping from Amazon before moving on to discuss the possibility of Vudu coming to the Xbox 360. Josh then briefly discussed the two Windows Phones that Nokia announced last week. They finished off the show by discussing the Google TV update, the Redbox rate hike, and an update to the Recorded TV HD Media Center plugin.
