Once again, it’s a slow one.  While the catalog releases keep rolling to Blu-ray, everything else video-wise is pretty dead.  Music definitely picks up this week though so if you’re an audio person, there should be something there for you to enjoy.

It’ll be slim pickins in the theaters this week.  Hopefully your local cineplex will still be showing some films you haven’t caught yet because it’ll be a good week to play catch up.  If I had to pick a winner though, it would Kick Ass.  After watching the preview, this might be a good Nick Cage vehicle after a dearth of junk:

Music this week is the standard fare.  You’ll be able to find something you’ll enjoy no doubt though the number of big names releasing albums is short.

As far as theatrical releases go?  Good luck.  With only one movie going with a nationwide release and three others limited, your choices are few and far between come Friday.  The good part is that the major release is a comedy starring Steve Carell, Mark Wahlberg and Tina Fey so hopefully it’ll be worth the trip to your local cineplex.  Check out the trailer below:

Per request, I’ve added theatrical releases to the show.  Now you’ll know what to look for when you head to the local cineplex on Friday nights.  Even there it’s an awfully thing week.  The highlight would have to be the remake of Clash of the Titans.  Hopefully this doesn’t completely destroy a classic.

If you’re into TV, you’re going to have to look towards DVD this week.  Blu-ray releases are just abysmal.  Hopefully that will change soon but I’m not holding my breath.  Looking forward over the next month, it doesn’t seem as though there will be much happening.  A few gems but choices should be easy for awhile.

While most weeks, you can have trouble deciding what new release to grab, this one is pretty easy.  There just isn’t anything that interesting in the movie area this week other than Toy Story 1 and 2 hitting Blu-ray.  Pixar’s stuff usually looks great in HD and hopefully these two classics make the move in good shape.  These seem a bit early to me with Toy Story 3 coming in July but hopefully they’ll be enough to get you ready for the third (and 3D) installment.

DVDs follow Blu-rays for the most part though there are some series coming to DVD that aren’t making the move to HD.

Don’t forget that although I’ll do my best to make this show as accurate as possible, studios can change their minds, even at the last minute.  Even with recording the show only two days early, last minute changes can happen.  Hopefully though you’ll be able to find the content you’re looking for.

As well, music makes a return to the show this week.  I’ve had some listeners ask for it and I’m happy to oblige.  There isn’t much of a selection releasing this coming Tuesday but there are a few for you to take a look at.

Just like the Collector’s pick of the week, I’ll do my best to provide samples of the music each week.  If they are available, they’ll only be provided by the use of widgets since just embedding them would mess up the feed as well as possibly get me thrown in jail.  Enjoy!

For the Collector’s Pick of the week I’ve decided to go with another Blu-ray title.  I remember watching “A River Runs Through It” when I was younger and always enjoyed it.  It’s probably not Tom Skerritt’s best performance but you do get to see a much younger Brad Pitt as well.  I just hope they’ve given us a good Blu-ray transfer.  There may be more popular titles coming out this week but this is a Robert Redford directed classic you should definitely add to your collection.  Enjoy the trailer:

This week’s Collector’s Pick of the Week was a bit harder.  I’m torn between two of the titles coming to Blu-ray this week.  One is a movie I already own on HD-DVD (yeah I know, how crazy was I?) and the other is one I really want to see when it releases on Tuesday.  So it’s a two-fer!

My picks this week are 300 and Coraline.  I already have 300 and enjoy it as far as action movies go.  Nice way to kick back and not have to think too much.  Coraline on the other hand is just releasing this week and I loved Henry Selick’s work on “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.  I encourage you to see that one too.  You can check out the trailers below courtesy of Trailer Addict:

While I want to keep The DMZ Media Minute as short as possible, I’ve been considering a longer show with a co-host, discussing the movie releases from the last few weeks.

This wouldn’t be as up to date as the DMZ but rather run a week or two behind.  Definitely a longer show giving impressions of some of the movies.  Not strictly reviews, but more just opinions on what we’ve seen.

Collector’s Pick of the Week

This week’s pick is M*A*S*H.  This classic 1970 film is about a group of doctors and nurses serving in the Korean War.  This is the movie that eventually led to the acclaimed television series.  A little racier than the TV program, this is definitely a movie for a more mature audience.  I would have to consider this one of my favorite films.  Have a look at the trailer:  (Explicit language and content!)

Of course I’ll still be covering all of the latest DVD and Blu-ray releases and it’s a slim selection this week.  Again, as I mentioned last week, it’s summer and the releases across a lot of markets just slow down.  Hopefully it’ll pick up soon for all of us home theater users!

But if not, the good part is that you don’t have to in order to get the relevant information.  Each week, I’ll list the upcoming releases here, linked to IMDB (when available) and with links where you can find them online.

Something to keep in mind:  While I will be doing everything I can to ensure that the listings and podcast are as accurate as possible, sometimes studios change the dates on releases.  This isn’t something I can control.  Since I’m recording the show on Sunday, hopefully everything will be accurate but it can’t be guaranteed.
