The only think keeping MythTV from being my HTPC software of choice is cablecards. Unfortunately with cable channels being so protective of their content, I doubt we'll see any headway on getting cablecards on a MythTV box. :(

Glad to hear you guys talk about MythTV. It's a great HTPC solution. I've run it for many years now and it has gotten better with each release. It used to be a real bear to install but it's much easier now with the advent of MythTV specific Linux distributions such as Mythbuntu, LinHES and Mythdora. You can literally get the system up in under an hour. The community is great and very supportive and with the money saved you can go get new hardware. FYI, I'm one of the hosts of MythTVCast that Guru and Patrick mentioned:
http://mythtvcast.com

We also have a forum where you can post questions related to MythTV:
http://thelinuxlink.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=18

Let me know if you ever want someone else familiar with MythTV to come on your show again.

Again, another great show guys!

Jere,
I think most HD-PVR difficulties come under the following categories:
1. Hardware issues with HD-PVR - these were mostly with the earlier versions prone to overheating
2. Driver issues - the earlier drivers had some bugs most of which have been worked out I believe.
3. Software issues - BeyondTV, Meedios and MediaPortal users report more issues than most and I believe that is something where those specific software programs need work (my opinion) The existing Windows 7 hack requiring a 3rd party add-on works, but again has issues that make it much less stable. SageTV and MythTV seem to work the best currently and that is a direct result of a lot of hard work on behalf of those developers.
4. Resolution switching - the HD-PVR can have issues switching between resolutions of different channels as well as different audio streams. I think most of these have been worked out, but reportedly still have issues for some STB's

My point is, it's not a Linux works better with the HD-PVR than Windows. It's more than that imo. I'm getting great results with the HD-PVR & SageTV on Windows 7 so I know it can work great :)
