Seen in HD Episode 13 – More Black Friday, UP review and more

hd

This week on Seen in HD we prepare for Thanksgiving with a healthy dose of Black Friday talk. We covered most of the deals in last week’s Blu Christmas show, but there’s a couple new deals this week as well.

First, Amazon has started it’s Black Friday week specials. They’re running all week long, different deals on different days, and in some cases at different times of the day. Take a look at the main deals calendar or check out the movies calendar to see when the best deal for you might pop up. You can also take a look at the whole list of deals.

Also, the battle for lowest price Blu-ray player may have been won by Wal Mart with it’s $78 Magnavox NB500MG1F. However, we agree with the folks over at Big Picture Big Sound who say you might want to avoid this deal.

Wrapping up the gift ideas, we look at Warner’s new DVD2Blu Web site that allows you to trade in DVD versions of Warner Bros. movies for Blu-ray copies. Prices range from 7.95 to 9.95, and with orders more than $25, shipping is free. Warner also has Red2Blu which allows you to trade in HD DVDs for Blu-rays, with prices starting at $4.95.

We’d love to hear how the big shopping weekend went for you. Did you have a big Black Friday conquest or disappointment? Leave a comment below, send an email to phil@thedigitalmediazone.com or find us on Twitter at @lozenp or @molsonfl and let us know about your story. We’ll share the best next week.

This week’s Blu-ray review looks at Disney/Pixar’s UP. Hands down one of, if not the, best release this year. Vibrant colors, amazing sound from the 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio mix including a storm scene that could be a new demo scene for many, wonderful definition and detail, it’s a breathtaking transfer and a great movie to boot. Get this MPEG-4 AVC masterpiece for $19.99 at Amazon right now.

The HD Sportsman is overstuffed this week, as college hoops tournaments can be found all week long along with the traditional Thanksgiving football. Check out the full post for all the action.

The Blu-ray release schedule for December 1 isn’t the biggest we’ve seen, but with films like Gremlins, Snatch and Terminator Salvation, it’s a good week.
