Ive danced with the devil that is HDCP encryption. And yes it does matter when it comes to displaying protected recordings using a digital interface (DVI/HDMI). Without it you will see a lovely error message stating HDCP Support Required instead of the recorded content. The only other way around this is to use an analog interface (component/VGA for HD or composite/s-video for SD). As someone who has had 2 ATI DCTs for a year+.
