Entertainment 2.0-Episode 44: The Listener Show

Print It’s a slow, slow week leading up to CEDIA folks and with not having read the listener comments and email from Episode 42, we decided it was a good idea to turn the show over to you, the listener!  This week Josh and I spend the majority of the show reading and responding to listener comments and questions.  We always enjoy reading comments and emails so keep them coming!

Expanding on the comments from last week’s show as well as emails we received, Josh and I attempted to discuss some finer points of HD and premium content in Media Center.

We also take time to try and help someone get away from broadcast content and move to a full internet solution.  While this isn’t really possible, there are a few apps that can at least help.  You’ll find links below.

Don’t forget, we want to hear from you!  Leave a comment, send us an email or use the contact page.  You can also leave a voicemail at 1-877-856-4933.  In fact, you may just want to do both this week!

Starting today until Wednesday September 9th at 12pm EST, if you leave a comment, you’ll get one entry to win a D-Link DSM-750.  If you leave us a voicemail, you get two!  By doing both you get a total of three chances to win this great extender!  You can read Josh’s full review here.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.

Teach him to use the Internet, and he won'tv bother you for weeks!

Great show and I like listening to it each week.

I had the problem with some NTSC OTA shows that where content protected. It happened when I went from MCE 2005 to a clean install of Vista MCE, some of my recordings, that I had on a separate disk, would not play because of copy protection.

A 250 gig would not last anytime at all for OTA ATSC HD recordings. I have a 1 TB disk and with just TV series I record I had it full most of the time if I did not watch them right away.

Just wanted to say I had the same problem Josh was describing in the podcast with recorded programs being flagged as protected in 7MC when I was running the beta. Almost everything I tried to watch on my laptop that I had recorded on my media center gave me the protected content message. I wound up going back to Vista when I rebuilt my media center a couple months ago. I am using a very old dish network reciever with an ir blaster. Works fine with Vista MC. Hopefully Josh will find a workaround and I will get to switch back to 7. :)

Count me in! I could use that MC entender.

I've just ordered the first PC that I intend to use as an HTPC (and will use my current desktop to build my first whs as well) so I've been listening to every E20 podcast that I can.

Believe you can't ship overseas, but would like to say that I enjoy the show very much anyway.

    Thanks a lot!

I would love a chance at the extender
  • Karkas
I'm praying for that extender. My wife won't let me spend money to reach out to the big screen =(

    P.S. Love the show.
  • A wireless media extender for my family room TV would be great for the kids.
Love the podcast on my IPhone ;-)

    Well sign me up guys.

    Hi,

I'm a pretty new listener and I like the show but I have to ask you something: How can you, with a straight face, host a show called Entertainment 2.0 and not have an HD TV? It sound more like Entertainment 0.9 beta. I mean to let your kids grow up watching standard def should be classified as child abuse by now..

Anyhow, do you guys accept "voicemails" over e-mail? (recorded on an iPhone that is, bring the hate) It is to much of a hassle to try to call that number for us over seas people.

Keep up the otherwise good work

    zeeke

PS. I'd love to win that extender. DS

Stumbled across your podcast, great show will definitely check it out again! Lot's of good information, I'll be joining the world of HTPC's soon and think that I'll give cablecards a shot despite the learning curve in getting it setup. Also, how can you have a HTPC and no high def, especially since you like hockey? lol

What the heck is semi-lossless? That's like almost fat free mayonaisse.

My broke ass wants to win this shiz
  • mark1234
Will you ship the D-Link internationally when I win?
  • carlohara
I'm leaving a comment in about the show as an entry for the Extender. I think you should have had a a section in the podcast with predictions for CEDIA and what your hoping for and expecting.

I have 802.11n, can I have a Dlink media center extender?

btw cablecard tuners once paired by a proper technician are stable and family friendly, one of you guys really should put your toe in the HD water.

I can understand how 250GB can be suitable for SD content, your really need the terabyte for the HD content (I get 107 hours per terabyte of HD storage).

Great show, cant wait for CEDIA news.
  • WireBoy
Great show guys. Keep it up- faithful listener here.
  • Rgreenpc
    Hope I win

the 360 is the best extender but I could always use another one media center extender, thanks.
  • andyvt
I have a 1TB drive just for TV, right now it has 238GB free space; no way is 250 enough.
  • count me in for a free media center extender please ;)
