The part that says ShowAnalyzer will only cost $20 needs an edit. ShowAnalyzer is now $30 for the 1st year and $15 every year after.

From the SA site – 2011-02-17: ShowAnalyzerSuite price (includes one year of upgrades): US$29.98
Upgrade renewal (one additional year of upgrades starting from purchase date or expiration of current upgrade license, which ever is longer): US$14.99

You can set it to not delete the original file so you have 2 copies, the original and the one without the commercials. If you like the no commercial one, it is ready to be archived in it minimum form. If it screwed up, just tell it to reanalyze the original again.

What the hell does this post have anything to do with the article?? I hate stupid people! And no the DTB Addin is not required you moron, it is just mentioned here in the article to make you ask more stupid questions. You can delete it off your PC along with your user account!

I can't seem to find my way around Windows 7. I switched from XP so I never took the transitional step through Vista. Now I'm trying to locate things that were in the Control Pannel in Xp but God knows where they are in Windows 7.

This guide is awesome as many people aren't even sure where to start when looking to mix SA with Windows 7.

Of course, I've not tested it, but I don't see how no one else has left a comment thus far.

No problem Josh – just thought I'd point my perspective out. There are pros
and cons of both apps although I think MediaCenter users might prefer
ShowAnalyzer – especially now with Windows 7 support. My current experience
with SageTV and one Hauppauge HD-PVR, the comskip wins although even that
opinion isn't universal. As I said in the comments – great article!

I by no means meant any disrespect to the Comskip authors. As you said, it is a very good program. Personally I've had success with both applications. I've always gotten the impression from the people posting on The Green Button and the DVRMSToolbox forums that Show Analyzer has always worked better for most of those people. I've never done enough head-to-head testing on the two to make that decision for myself. Maybe if/when Comskip supports WTV files I'll do that. Until then I'll be sticking with Show Analyzer as it's so great to finally have live commercial skipping in Windows 7.

Great article Josh- I'm linking to this from GeekTonic for its very good content and detail that I really enjoy.

I do want to point out though that while I love both ShowAnalyzer and Comskip both, it is definitely not a given to say that “Show Analyzer is considered the better utility”. I know this was meant in context of Windows 7, but with other programs that can use both programs I can say that comskip is a very good competitor in many ways. I say that with the upmost respect to Jere who is obviously a very talented coder – just wanted to point out that comskip is a very viable option to non-Windows 7 users.

It should also be noted that comskip has a “donation” version that does cost and provides the very latest and greatest advances. Windows 7 isn't yet supported, but Hauppauge HD-PVR support among other things are very solid with comskip.
